A Bright Build for the FUTURE
CSU Dominguez Hills recently completed their Net-Zero Innovation center (featured above). The purpose of this center is to educate students on the real-world applications for sustainable building and conservation. The Net Zero Center is equipped with an array of conservation items such as metered power outlets, TV displayed real-time energy consumption and solar panels.
But the Net Zero Innovation Center is more than energy, it's a sustainability hub. Facilities have added a weather station, rainwater harvesting system, a demonstration living wall, vermicomposting bin, and recycling displays/bins.
These items support education on net zero waste/water and general sustainability principles. To further the education process, several placard signs containing information are featured for full descriptions of each item and its purpose. "In the near future, we will be installing a solar thermal hot water heater, and will continue to explore the educational opportunities generated by this new living laboratory space." - Kenneth Seeton - Central Plant and Energy Manager
